A Bit About Us

Mālama Learning Center

Mālama Learning Center was created by public and private partners sharing a vision of a place in West Oʻahu that brings art, science, conservation and culture together to promote sustainable living through education. Founded in 2004 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, our mission is to teach and inspire communities to create healthy living environments. We design and deliver programs using techniques grounded in place-based and hands-on learning to build lifelong commitments to practice mālama ʻāina.

Outside Hawaiʻi, the longest running series on Spectrum OC16 television, is now a program of the Mālama Learning Center. With the passing of Executive Producer, Cal Hirai, whose final wishes were to have Mālama Learning Center produce his show, this transition began in January 2021. Outside Hawaiʻi will continue to tell uplifting stories about the conservation of the environment and caring of the people of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. This is a kuleana (responsibility) that we will carry with pride and aloha.
